Formula 1 Quick Start Q&A(7)-XperKart
  1. What if more than two cars fail to start during the warm-up lap?

In this case, it is usually because the cars have mechanical problems or engine deadlock. As long as these two cars can solve the problems in time, they can continue the race, but they must start at the end of the grid, and the order of the cars at the end of the grid will be according to the order of solving the problems of the cars that have started.

  1. In rainy weather, will the starting procedure be different from normal?

If the Race Director feels that rain is a threat to the start, the Safety Car will lead the start and all cars will follow, with no overtaking allowed, unless passing a dead car. After the Safety Car leaves, the cars may begin racing as normal.

If it starts raining 5 minutes before the race, the Race Director may change the 5-minute countdown to 15 minutes, i.e., the race will be delayed by 10 minutes.

If the track is heavily waterlogged and a red “10” sign appears, the race will be delayed for at least 10 minutes. If the Race Director considers that the race can start in 10 minutes, the green “10” sign will be used. Depending on the rain conditions, the color of the “10” may be changed.

  1. Can a race be stopped?

Yes. The Race Director may stop a race for safety reasons, especially in the event of an accident that seriously blocks the track. In this case, a red flag will be waved on the track to indicate that the race has been stopped.

  1. What is the procedure for stopping a race?

There are three possible scenarios depending on the number of laps completed by the lead driver: (1) The race is stopped less than two laps into the race, usually due to a serious incident, and is restarted after 20 minutes after the incident has been resolved. (2) If the race has completed more than two laps but less than 3/4 of the laps, if safety permits, the car will be restarted according to the penultimate grid position before the stoppage; otherwise, the race will be ended early and the drivers will be calculated according to the grid position before the stoppage, with the points for the top six places halved. (3) If the race has completed more than 3/4 of the laps, the race will end and the drivers will be ranked and scored according to the grid position before the stoppage.

  1. Will the race be stopped when it rains?

Usually rain does not stop the race. The drivers and teams will decide whether to go into the pits for rain tires or to continue with dry tires. However, if the weather is so bad that continuing the race may cause a serious accident, the Race Director may order the Safety Car to start the race. If the weather is so bad that it is dangerous to have a safety car in the lead, the race will be stopped.
